Getting started

Welcome to vlingo™, an easy-to-use product that allows you to use your voice instead of typing to get the most out of your BlackBerry® device.

Using vlingo, you can speak directly to your phone to browse the web, send email or text messages, make phone calls, write a note to yourself, and open some of the BlackBerry applications. And, you just need to talk to your device to do all of these things.

Vlingo learns your voice as you speak to it; the more you use it, the more the accuracy of the speech recognition improves.

How to use vlingo

After installing and configuring the software, you are ready to start using vlingo.

To use vlingo:

1. Hold the side key and wait to hear the tone that indicates that vlingo is waiting for you to speak.

2. Continue to hold the side key and tell vlingo what you want to do. For example, you can search the web, send an email, send a text message, or open another application. See Using the vlingo™ software for additional information.

The following events occur when you use vlingo to perform a specific task:

1. Vlingo listens to what you say and then displays its interpretation of what you said in a speech-enabled text box.

You can correct the displayed text if it does not match what you said, or you can accept the text.

2. Once you accept the text, the BlackBerry application completes the task that you requested (For example, start a web search, call a contact, or send an email).

If you use vlingo to open an application, it does not display text in a vlingo text box; it tries to open the application you requested. You can then use the application in the usual manner.
